About Lisa

Lisa Cartrette was born in Conway, South Carolina. Lisa was introduced to the fine arts at a very young age by her grandmother, and has been immersed in the art world since she was a child. Lisa studied art studio at Coastal Carolina University before switching to a major in graphic design. She combined her love of sewing with her love of illustration and began designing her own fabric to use in her sewing projects. In 2016 she started a business called Bashful Birdie Handmade where she sews heirloom quality clothing and accessories for babies and children with the custom designed fabric. She is also one half of the husband and wife design collab, Before The Ink Is Dry.

Often told she was born after her time, she has always been heavily influenced by the psychedelic and nature focused art of the 60s and 70s as well as artists such as Mary Blair and Alexander Girard. The focus of her works are primarily florals and birds, with her medium of choice being gouache. Lisa also works digitally on some of her works. She currently resides in Galivants Ferry, South Carolina with her husband, sons, and cat.
